01 Overview
The short version
This Privacy Policy applies to the NetState iOS and iPadOS application, provided by lucidmaj7. NetState is a widget-first network status utility. You do not need to create an account, and the developer does not operate a server that receives the Wi-Fi name, IP addresses, gateway, subnet mask, DNS values, or connection state displayed by NetState.
02 Network information
Information NetState reads
When the app or widget refreshes, NetState may read the current connection type, cellular radio generation, Wi-Fi SSID, local IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, gateway, subnet mask, DNS servers, system-provided link quality, and refresh result.
NetState processes this information on the device and stores the latest snapshot in a shared App Group container so the main app and its widgets can display the same state. Later refreshes replace the snapshot. NetState does not upload this information to the developer, create a remote network history, or add SSID or IP values to advertising requests.
NetState does not perform ping, speed tests, public-IP lookups, LAN scanning, or background traffic monitoring as part of its network refresh.
03 Location permission
Why iOS asks for location access
iOS requires location permission before an app can access the name of the currently connected Wi-Fi network. NetState requests When In Use access and may require Precise Location for SSID access.
NetState does not request or read geographic coordinates, store a location history, or transmit your physical location to the developer. If you deny location permission or turn off Precise Location, NetState can continue to show the connection type and available local address information, but the Wi-Fi name may be unavailable.
04 Widgets
Information on your Home Screen
NetState widgets can display the current connection type, Wi-Fi SSID, Wi-Fi local IPv4 address, LTE or 5G state, and system-provided link quality when available. Widget values are shared only through the on-device App Group container.
Information placed on the Home Screen may be visible to anyone who can see your device. You can remove the widget or change location and widget privacy settings at any time. Widgets do not include the advertising SDK and do not display ads.
05 Advertising
Advertising and consent
The main NetState app uses Google AdMob to display a banner advertisement on the Status screen. Google and its advertising partners may process information such as your IP address, general device and app information, app-scoped device identifiers, consent signals, ad impressions and interactions, crash information, performance data, and diagnostics. An IP address may be used to estimate a device's general location. The exact processing depends on your region, device settings, consent choices, Google configuration, and Google's policies.
NetState uses Google's User Messaging Platform to request and store advertising privacy choices where required. When Google indicates that a privacy-options entry point is required in your region, NetState makes that option available from Settings.
NetState does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission and does not intentionally access the Identifier for Advertisers. Ads may still be served without IDFA.
SSID, local IP addresses, IPv6, gateway, subnet mask, DNS servers, and geographic coordinates are not added to ad requests or used by NetState to personalize advertisements.
06 Third parties
Third-party services
Advertising and consent information is processed under Google's own policies. The developer does not control Google's retention practices or the information processed after you choose to interact with an advertisement.
07 Your choices
Control and delete information
- Wi-Fi name: Manage NetState location and Precise Location access in iOS Settings.
- Home Screen: Remove a NetState widget whenever you no longer want network information displayed there.
- Advertising privacy: When required in your region, use the advertising privacy option shown in NetState Settings to review the available consent choices.
- Local snapshot: Later refreshes replace the latest snapshot. Removing NetState deletes its app container according to iOS behavior, subject to any device backups you control.
Because NetState does not create an account or send network snapshots to the developer, the developer cannot retrieve or remotely delete those local values for you. Advertising consent, identifiers, and related information handled by Google are retained according to Google and iOS controls.
08 Children and changes
Children and policy updates
NetState is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information. Advertising is configured subject to applicable age and regional requirements.
This policy may be updated when NetState features, advertising partners, platform behavior, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are published.
